Attended an entrepreneurship talk just now by Mr. David Oh Kit Yan.
I always have a mind set that talks/seminars/speeches are dumb/boring, maybe I was too lucky to have such uninteresting speaker? harhar. But today's one was great, his started his speech with a joke, and everyone woke up from their dreamland and pay full concentration to him. Guess wht? I was one of them. ;) He's not tht handsome, not tht tall either, atleast he isnt fat. Hmmmm. Well all these doesnt relate much with the talk tht we had just now. Erm, sorry! haha. My sister once told me if a guy with good english accent, she'll definitely fall for him. The another reason besides his interesting story plot of speech, he speaks fantastic english. You felt really comfortable listening to him, thus you'll be paying attention to him. regardeless of the talk itself wtf, it is because I dont think im a business-type-people for now or in the future. My math and finance are terribily horrible kao kao, and tht are one of the main causes for you to be an entrepreneur. Okay, so I actually failed. lol. So, why do I chose business courses? :S Hmmm..
Another thing David mentioned was, apart from the factors of management, financing or marketing. The most important thing on the earth, is actually people. Yes, every single human being around you. As I mentioned before tht i'm not good in having a good liaison with people, I might be weird and so as others. Since we cant change others, so the only way is to change ourselves at the first place. After listening to baby and a friend's advises, I have tried to change the perception towards others. And defitnitely, I live a happier life now. Without jealousy, hatres and sorrows. Yay! so yeah, YAY for me alright. (:
Okay, so lets see wht do people linked with businesses.
You have to manage people, motivate your workers, reward/punish them whn needed, not forgotten your suppliers and clients. Haiyo, cut this crap. This is wht we learned from the text books. Theres nth much needed to be elaborate longer. Without people, you cant even run a business, because there is no people to stand behind your back and give you supports and encouragements whn you needs it. Furthermore, there is no people to give you advises and correct you from the wrongdoings. Well, we should talk about smth tht is 'nearer' to us, I mean for the age of 19 going 20. Entrepreneurship is smth really 'far' from me. lol. We need friends as companion in everything we do in our life. Whn we're in kindergarten and primary schools, we need friends to accompany us for shh shh (toilet) and maybe mm mm too wtf. For for telling about a crush in high school, about a broken heart after tht, about family issues, friendships problems, happiness of marriage, excitement of new born baby and the list goes on. (: There are too many of them, I am sure you knw wht are they. Heee.
Ohhh, and I need to change my perception and sensitivity. To be a better me and treat everyone equally out there. (:
Anyway, I have a question for you. Wht do you think Starbucks sell?
Most of the students in the lecture answered, "coffee!" I was thinking yeah, coffee larh. their coffee are nice enough. But guess wht David Oh said? The ans was actually lifestyle. (; Hmmm, now you'll think this answer is more applicable right? Why do people have to spent like rm12 or rm14 just for a cup of coffee? Thy can go for any coffee shops which sell them at least 3times cheaper. It's cool whn you sit down with your lappie and a cup of Starbucks coffee. People nowadays are calling for good quality life and a better lifestyle. Each time I have a cup of Starbucks I'll feel a little heartache, yeah just a little bit at tht moment harhar. After tht? Well, you will have the same answer as me, I knew it. hahaha.
Nevertheless, David Oh brought up a vry important point. He says, "Just because youre good at somehting, doesnt mean you can run a business." This makes me think further and deeper. Whn I was small, Barbie doll is every girls' favorite toy. I rmbr I ply them almost everyday whenever I am free. :D From standard one to six, the blank for ambition, I wrote the same thing over and over again. I wrote, "Fashion Designer" Heck, just because I loves to play barbie doll and loves to simply mix match and even sew something for them, I thought I will becoming a fashion designer in the future. We need alot of encouragements and motivations and also cash to fulfill tht dream. Like I thought I'm good with handling a liaison with people because I have mny good friends, but actually I'm not. I'm good with a bunch of old friends because we knw each other well, but not to the new environment and new people.
Lastly, he threw another question for us. How do you define rich? As a student, maybe rm1000 per month is rich for us, some people earning rm2000 is more thn enough for them. But some people even 20k or 100k also wouldnt be enough for them. Hence, theres no a definition for rich and an accurate answer, because all of us require different things and levels in our life. So, you shall stop saying you wanna be rich whn your goal is not measurable. (;
Basically the whole post is nothing to do with entrepreneurship, isnt it? A simple yet powerful speech has actually told me a lot of things to be noticed and learned.
